Why SMS for abatement crews
SMS (spunbond-meltblown-spunbond) is a three-layer nonwoven. The meltblown middle layer contributes particle filtration, while the outer spunbond layers add strength. Its breathable construction allows air and moisture vapor to pass through and can help reduce heat buildup compared with non-breathable film constructions. Comfort and protective performance depend on the complete garment and working conditions.
Full-body coverage in one piece
The OSHA construction asbestos standard, 29 CFR 1926.1101(i)(1), requires whole-body protective clothing, head and foot coverings, and gloves in specified exposure and work situations. Attached hood and boot covers provide integrated head and foot coverage; elastic cuffs help achieve a closer fit. Select and use the suit with the required respirator, gloves and other PPE under your employer’s exposure assessment and abatement plan. A Type 5/6 rating alone does not establish compliance for every asbestos task.
Typical uses
Asbestos removal and abatement, lead paint abatement, mold remediation, demolition and renovation, insulation removal, and general dusty maintenance work, where the exact garment’s protection and fit meet the assessed hazards.
Limits
SMS is breathable and this garment is Type 6 rated for limited light-splash protection, but it is not liquid-tight. For pressurized liquid jets, heavy spray or chemical handling, select a suit with suitable chemical-specific test data and the required protection rating, such as Type 3 or Type 4 where appropriate. See our protective suit selection guide.
Size and fit
Available sizes: XL, 2XL and 3XL. Request the factory height and chest measurements in inches before selecting a size. Between sizes? Choose the larger size for easier movement over work clothes, while maintaining the required protective fit.
How to order
Each case holds one size. Pick the size and case pack in the selector above; the cart quantity counts cases. For mixed sizes or pallet quantities, send the SKU, size mix, case quantities and delivery ZIP code with a bulk quote request.
Frequently asked questions
Are these disposable coveralls suitable for asbestos removal?
PL-CA-107-1 is Type 5 certified for protection against hazardous dry particles and has an attached hood and boot covers. Suitability for a particular asbestos removal job depends on the exposure assessment, garment fit and the employer’s PPE plan. Use it with the required respiratory protection and other PPE.
What does Type 5/6 mean?
Type 5 (EN ISO 13982-1) covers protective clothing against hazardous dry airborne particles. Type 6 (EN 13034) provides limited protection against light liquid spray and splash. Category III is the EU PPE risk category for risks that may cause death or irreversible damage to health.
Who certified these coveralls?
Centrocot, an independent testing and certification body in Italy. Request the model-specific certificate and EU declaration of conformity from Poltex.
Is SMS material breathable?
Yes. SMS is an air-permeable nonwoven construction that allows air and moisture vapor to pass through. Comfort depends on work conditions, garment fit and the complete PPE ensemble.
Are these coveralls waterproof?
No. They provide limited light-splash protection under Type 6 and are not liquid-tight. Heavy spray, liquid jets or chemical handling require a suit with appropriate hazard-specific test data and protection ratings.
What is the difference between SMS, microporous and Tyvek coveralls?
SMS is a layered nonwoven commonly used for dry-particle work. Microporous coveralls use a film-based construction, with liquid resistance depending on the specific garment. DuPont™ Tyvek® is a branded flashspun high-density polyethylene material. Compare the exact suit’s test data, design and certification; material names alone do not establish protection.
Can I mix sizes in one order?
Each case holds one size. Order separate cases for XL, 2XL and 3XL, or request a mixed bulk quote.
How much do they cost per suit?
$4.00 per suit in a case of 10, $3.00 in a case of 25, and $2.50 in a case of 50, before shipping and tax.
Where do they ship from?
Poltex International Inc., Anderson, South Carolina, USA.
